Community Health & Overdose Prevention
SPECO continued to serve as a trusted leader in community health and overdose prevention across Cabell County.
In 2025:
- 5,422 naloxone doses were distributed locally
- 20,000 additional doses were distributed at Healing Appalachia
SPECO also coordinated Save A Life Day, maintained a publicly accessible naloxone box at St. Peter’s, and provided education and outreach to support overdose prevention efforts countywide.
Dignity-Centered Support
SPECO addressed gaps in basic assistance by providing targeted support that prioritizes dignity and stability, including:
- Menstrual hygiene kits distributed through United Way of the River Cities
- Children’s socks and emergency kits distributed through NECCO
- Household goods for neighbors transitioning into permanent housing
Lot of Love Community Garden
The Lot of Love Community Garden strengthened food access while building community connections throughout the 2025 growing season.
2025 garden impact:
- 403.7 pounds of fresh produce harvested and distributed
- 145.5 volunteer hours contributed
- Establishment of a Garden Committee for long-term sustainability
- Installation of a permanent irrigation system in partnership with Terra Fate
The garden operated from April through November, supported by volunteers from the neighborhood, St. Peter’s, recovery programs, and partner organizations.
Partnerships That Expand Impact
In 2025, SPECO also helped launch the West End Faith Alliance, a collaborative network of faith-based partners addressing shared community needs. Supported by the Pallottine Foundation, the alliance distributed 144 meals between October and December while building a foundation for expanded outreach.
Moving Forward
Each number represents a neighbor supported, a life protected, or a need met with dignity. As SPECO looks ahead, these programs continue to evolve, guided by community need, collaboration, and sustained investment.
Thank you to everyone who makes this work possible.
