Harmony House is an organization seeking to end homelessness in the Huntington area through permanent housing and supportive service programs. Homeless Outreach: Street Outreach teams locate and identify individuals who may be experiencing homelessness but are not currently accessing Harmony House services for a variety of reasons, including lack of transportation or knowledge of our programs and general distrust of strangers due to prolonged periods of homelessness. Outreach teams then connect unsheltered individuals with necessary resources both within and outside of Harmony House. If an individual has not yet reached a stage where they’re ready to accept help, these teams make daily visits to homeless encampments to bring those individuals resources to keep them safe until they can take the next step on their housing journey, including tents, water, first-aid kits, shelf-stable meals, propane, and more. Case Management: An Information and Referral case manager meets with individuals seeking Harmony House services. He or she will gather background information and complete a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s immediate needs – such as healthcare, housing, or employment – and will determine eligibility for other HH services. Medical: Harmony House provides medical care in our Day Shelter medical offices. Weekly, an LPN from Valley Health and Dr. Sydnee McElroy with Marshall Family Medicine see clients and arrange appointments with healthcare providers for those persons with more severe medical concerns. HH also offers free, monthly primary care checkups. Behavioral Health: The Continuum of Care (CoC) employs a therapist who offices out of The Center-Youth Opportunity Hub. They provide screening, crisis management, brief intervention, consultation, and referral. Additional services are available via Telehealth, provided by the Marshall Psychology Department. Payee Service: Through the Social Security Representative Payment Program, a representative payee is assigned and charged with the task of managing Social Security or SSI income for individuals who are incapable of managing their own benefits. Harmony House employs a representative payee for homeless and formerly homeless individuals who need this extra assistance.
